For nearly four decades, The University of Toronto has offered students the opportunity to study abroad for an entire summer. After receiving loads of feedback from program alumni, the school decided that they needed to re-work their existing web site and make it their primary advertising and communication vehicle for the program.
We first performed an extensive structural overhaul of the site (from a content perspective), to make information easier to find and digest. We modified the publishing back-end (Expression Engine) to make it simpler for Summer Abroad administrators to get content where it needed to be.
Once the main site was in good working order, we implemented a secure area for current Summer Abroad students where they could complete all necessary forms, make payments and work through a checklist of tasks they needed to complete before they could travel. We also developed a discussion community where students could engage with each other directly for advice and tips.
