An interview with Dan Allen, Owner Dan Allen Financial
In the competitive financial services industry, the demand for information by prospects and clients alike drove Dan Allen Financial Inc. to creating a website. Clients were looking for on-line access to their accounts, prospects were looking for information about me and our business and both were looking for financial planning calculators and sources of information that are available 24/7.
While financial planning remains a very personal business, our new website provides this immediate access to information and services for clients and prospects.
We were aware of 15-20 similar businesses from across Canada and we went into their websites to compare. One of their websites stood out as what we were looking for - quick access, good financial tools, ease of use, good links to information, etc. We also wanted someone familiar with the compliance requirements of Manulife and the industry. We contacted Brad & Heather Amlin about their website and they referred us to Rolf Johannson Web Design.
First of all, we’re in a business that everyone agrees is important but, let’s face it, people are busy and it’s not always easy to call or meet with your financial planner. And, frankly, I enjoy meeting with clients in the evenings but my one-on-one time with them is better spent on more complex planning issues. So the website helps clients looking for the access to basic information at their convenience without needing to call or drop into the office.
Most of my new business comes from client referrals. In this day, even though I might have been referred by your dad or sister, prospects often prefer to do a little homework on a potential advisor before committing to an appointment. My www.danallenfinancial.com website helps people get to know us a little better before calling or e-mailing.
The access to information builds credibility and trust that we can work with them and their financial situation to help them achieve their goals. Sounds strange because we think of websites as “just cold technology” but a website well integrated into your business will actually build more trust than I first expected.
As a result, now when I speak to prospects looking for a financial advisor, we’ll go through our normal interview process and I’ll also ensure they know about the website so they can look up more information about what we do. And they have access to this info at their convenience so spouses can discuss it after the kids go to bed, or whatever.
Very easy. I put together some basic information of what I thought I wanted, we discussed what was important to my clients and me and Rolf took it away to complete a first draft. From that point, we “massaged” it into the effective website I have now.
And his after sales support has been excellent, Rolf takes the time to help me make the website better. Best of all, he helps me, help myself so we can keep the information current without having to rely on outside support all the time.
Right now, we have a way to go before we reach our full potential with all the tools and links Rolf has put in place for us. Communicating with clients and prospects about the website and getting their feedback and input into next steps will likely lead the way to future developments.
